BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The Transportation Security Administration says security staff stopped a traveler from bringing a loaded pistol onto an airplane at the Bismarck airport. The TSA says it’s the third time this year a passenger has tried to bring a gun through Bismarck airport security.

Authorities say a TSA officer spotted the gun in the passenger’s carry-on bag Monday. The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/2q2BpiQ ) says a police officer removed the gun which contained seven rounds, including one in the chamber.

The passenger was not cited by police, but the TSA says it expects to impose a civil penalty which can be as much as $7,500.

Passengers are allowed to carry unloaded firearms in their checked luggage.
