Rep. Joaquin Castro has decided not to challenge Sen. Ted Cruz for his Senate seat, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

The Texas Democrat is expected to announce his decision not to enter the race, choosing instead to focus on his work in the House.

Mr. Castro was floated as a strong contender against the incumbent Mr. Cruz, and announced last summer that he would weigh the decision to run.

This leaves the Democratic side open for Rep. Beto O’Rourke who has already declared his candidacy.
