SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Legislature is restoring $1 million in the state budget that helps out the Outdoor Retailer show, with the hope it will persuade show organizers keep it in Salt Lake City.
Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday his office requested the money be put back to help pay for large pavilion tents that provide space for the massive expo.
Outdoor Retailer spokeswoman Kate Lowery said in a statement they appreciate the sentiment but only a position change on public lands by state leaders would spur them to reconsider.
The show last month announced it’s leaving after state leaders called for the new Bears Ears National Monument to be rescinded.
The July show will be in Utah, but officials are considering their options for 2018 despite being under contract to host them in Salt Lake City.
