TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa businessman says he’s planning to seek the Republican nomination for the 1st Congressional District in Tulsa in 2018.

Kevin Hern announced Thursday he would seek the seat currently held by Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Tulsa. Bridenstine was elected in 2012 and vowed at the time to serve no more than three terms in office.

The 55-year-old Hern is the owner of Tulsa-based KTAK Corporation and owns and operates 10 McDonald’s restaurants in the Tulsa area.

In a press release announcing his candidacy, Hern touted his hardscrabble upbringing and how he worked his way up through the ranks of the fast-food industry. He says he wants to focus on border security and repealing what he describes as “job-killing regulations and tax policies.”
