BOSTON (AP) - Unemployment in Massachusetts ticked up slightly in January but officials say the state added an estimated 13,000 jobs during the month.

The office of Labor and Workforce Development said Thursday the unemployment rate rose to 3.2 percent in January from the revised December rate of 3.1 percent. The December jobless rate had originally been pegged at a 16-year low of 2.8 percent in Massachusetts.

The state remains well below the 4.8 percent U.S. unemployment rate for the month of January.

The latest numbers shows the state’s labor force increased by 1,600 from the previous month, and the labor participation rate - the percentage of people 16 and over who are either working or looking for work - was up slightly to about 65 percent.
