LAS VEGAS (AP) - Leaders in the electric vehicle industry are working to get more of the vehicles on Nevada’s roads.
The Las Vegas Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2naXVSO) the leaders discussed ways to propel transportation’s electric future at Wednesday’s Electric Vehicle Summit in Las Vegas.
Marie Steele with NV Energy says there are nearly 3,000 electric vehicles in Nevada, double the total in 2015.
Nevada falls behind other states such as Washington and California, which has an estimated 225,000 electric cars, but Steele says Nevada is ripe for growth.
The $5 billion Tesla Gigafactory in northern Nevada has helped fuel the industry in the state and worldwide.
The state is also working to add electric vehicle charging stations along U.S. 95 between Las Vegas and Reno.
State officials say the goal is to have an electric highway system serving the entire state by 2020.
