Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said Wednesday that President Trump’s pledge in January of “insurance for everybody” at a lower cost in an Obamacare replacement plan is “certainly the goal.”

“I think that’s certainly the goal, and it’s important for people to realize … that the current system is not satisfactory for many individuals,” Mr. Price said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“A lot of folks have a health insurance card, but they don’t have any care,” Mr. Price said.

Mr. Price had been asked about Mr. Trump’s comment in January to The Washington Post that “we’re going to have insurance for everybody” in an Obamacare replacement plan.

People covered under the law “can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better,” Mr. Trump said then.

House Republicans rolled out their plan this week to overhaul Obamacare by undoing the individual mandate to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS and replacing the law’s subsidies with age-based tax credits, among other provisions.

Democrats and some conservatives are already criticizing the plan, with Democrats saying it could cause many to lose their health insurance and conservatives calling for an immediate and complete repeal of the law.
