COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Clarendon County’s deputy fire chief is South Carolina’s next state fire marshal.

Gov. Henry McMaster announced Wednesday that Jonathan Jones will take over the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s division of fire and life safety.

McMaster says Jones has “stood every test,” knows his business and “has the trust of his colleagues.”

According to the governor’s office, Jones has 22 years of experience in emergency response and has spent the last 15 years with the Clarendon County Fire Department. He’s been deputy chief since 2014. He is the former president of the State Firefighters Association.

As state fire marshal, Jones will oversee the state’s Fire Academy, Emergency Response Task Force and state fire safety regulations.
