DETROIT (AP) - A public hearing in Detroit on quality education will focus on an NAACP board resolution calling for a moratorium on charter school expansion.

The hearing will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Detroit Collegiate Preparatory High School at Northwestern. It is open to the public. Registration for public comment starts at 5 p.m.

It is the fifth of seven hearings around the country and will be attended by members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Educational Taskforce.

The resolution was ratified last year. It demands that public funds not be diverted to charter schools at the expense of public school systems and wants better oversight of charter operators.

The NAACP Detroit branch and Michigan State Conference NAACP also will attend the hearing.
