PHOENIX (AP) - A Mesa plumber has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of defrauding his employer of thousands of dollars that he had customers pay him directly.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge on Friday sentenced Michael Duane Mullet of convictions for theft and dozens of counts of fraud.

The state Attorney General’s Office says the Mullet used a loophole in a computer software program to steal more than $16,700 in 2014 while working for Lawson Family Plumbing, described as a small family-owned business.

Mesa police investigated after a concerned customer called the business to report suspicious activity by Mullet.
