WHITE CENTER, Wash. (AP) - A 21-year-old man who is homeless has been charged with first-degree assault with sexual motivation in connection with an attack on a 55-year-old homeless woman near Seattle.

The Seattle Times reports (https://goo.gl/2ViS1e ) Robert German was charged Monday.

King County Sheriff’s detectives say German told them he finished a fast-food restaurant shift early Thursday and walked to a bus stop.

Charging papers say video-surveillance footage shows German encountered the woman just before 2 a.m. and that he grabbed her and beat her until she was unrecognizable. A witness called 911 and police arrested German in the area shortly afterward.

The woman remains at a Seattle hospital and charging papers say evidence of a sexual assault was also found.

Detectives say German denied seeing or encountering a woman on the night of the attack.
