SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has filed a federal misconduct complaint against the state and federal agents who investigated him.
The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2lYSBRz ) reported Monday that Shurtleff, a three-term attorney general, filed the complaint in November.
Shurtleff, along with former Utah Attorney General John Swallow, faced pay-to-play charges after prosecutors said they accepted money and gifts like spa vacations from businessmen seeking legal protections from regulators.
Prosecutors dropped Shurtleff’s case in July, arguing that federal investigators were withholding key evidence. Swallow was acquitted by a jury last week.
The complaint was filed against two FBI agents and a Utah Public Safety investigator.
The FBI and Public Safety officials declined comment.
John Lavinsky of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Inspector General Office says he can’t confirm or deny if it’s being investigated.
