OPINION:
Mainstream media folk who’ve gotten into a comfortable swing of attack-all-President-Trump things might want to slow the roll a bit.
A new poll shows the American people are rapidly losing love for media outlets that get all pit-bully on the president — especially when it’s realized these same organizations had adopted a more lap-dog approach with the previous commander-in-chief, Barack Obama.
By the numbers: Fully 55 percent of the IBD/TIPP poll participants say they’re “weary from the media’s persistently negative coverage of President Trump.”
Another 54 percent think the media has “assumed the role of the opposition party, constantly opposing the president and his policies at every turn.”
You don’t say.
Who knew pollsters, after the debacle now not-so-fondly remembered as “The Time We Predicted Hillary Clinton Would Win,” could be so accurate?
Chalk that as a live-and-learn moment.
Republicans, to the tune of 88 percent, are more tired of the media attacks than Democrats — of course. Republicans, by and large, have less tolerance for insanity and false narratives than Democrats — and that’s not just me saying that. It’s science. It’s on the Inner-net. But the big news is that 55 percent of independents and 54 percent of moderates are equally weary of the media shenanigans.
What that means for Democrats and, apologies for the redundancy, the mainstream media, is this: The all-out war on Trump bodes well for Republicans for the upcoming elections.
So well, in fact, that it’s almost a shame for conservative writers of the world to advertise the facts of the poll.
Of course, some may dispute the survey’s accuracy — some, like the mainstream media outlets who are guilty of the attacks. For the sake of professionalism, we won’t name these press outlets.
Rather, we’ll let the anonymous sources do it — just kidding. (What are we, The New York Times? CNN?)
So let’s just jump to the big takeaway from the poll, found in this one-liner in Investor’s story on the stats: “Despite Trump’s low approval numbers, the public backs most of his policies.”
Listen up, mainstream media: Those policies include the hiring of 10,000 more immigration agents, the deportations of illegals who commit crimes — crimes above and beyond the ones broken by sneaking into the country in the first place, that is — and the withholding of federal dollars for cities that won’t shed the sanctuary label.
Oh, yes, one more: Forty-eight percent think Judge Neil Gorsuch should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.
A smart mainstream media would realize that his poll points the way to a country that’s quickly losing patience with a tone of reporting that’s all about opposing, rather than truth-telling. But then again, a smart conservative would come to the same conclusion — and just let the negativity ride, biding time ’til the next election, confident how the ballots are going to go.
