NOME, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say a Wasilla man has died in an airplane crash near Nome.

Troopers on Monday identified the victim as 28-year-old Thomas Grainger.

Troopers say they received a report Sunday of an airplane that was overdue on a flight from Wasilla to Nome.

In a web posting, troopers say Grainger was not able to land his Cessna 172 in Nome because of weather, and his last communication was about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Ground searchers found the plane about 10 a.m. Monday at Hastings Creek, about 10 miles east of Nome.
