PARK CITY, Utah (AP) - A teenager charged with distribution of a new synthetic drug that killed two 13-year-old Park City boys will avoid time in a juvenile treatment facility after taking a plea deal.

The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2nTuWFG) reports the teenager pleaded guilty Friday in a Park City juvenile court to misdemeanor reckless endangerment. In return, prosecutors dropped a felony charge.

He was ordered to complete a drug treatment program and do 80 hours of community service.

The teenager, who the Associated Press isn’t naming because of his age, said he “feels awful” about what happened.

Ryan Ainsworth and Grant Seaver overdosed last year on a drug sometimes known as “pink.”

The AP is part of a media coalition that persuaded a judge to keep the proceedings open to the public.
