ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - State employees who work in buildings on a street in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, are being relocated as air quality testing is done on chemicals under the foundation.

Officials say they were made aware Thursday of the presence of chemicals typically associated with dry cleaning under the foundation of the buildings on 67/72 Eastern Avenue, which the Vermont Agency of Human Services leases for office space. They said some of the chemicals identified may pose a potential health risk, but that indoor air quality hadn’t been sampled yet.

It wasn’t immediately known how many workers were being relocated.

Air quality tests were scheduled to start Friday. A forum will be held for employees on Tuesday, when the state expects to have preliminary test results back.
