BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A federal agency is suing a national car wash company for racial discrimination in its Birmingham stores.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the lawsuit Thursday claiming two locations owned by Car Wash Headquarters, Inc. favored white workers over African Americans for management positions.
The agency says Mister Car Wash and Mister Hot Shine Carwash passed over senior black employees and instead promoted less qualified white workers.
The suit in U.S. District Court in Northern Alabama says one of the workers who filed complaints to the agency often trained the white employees who were then promoted above him.
Car Wash Headquarters, Inc. is headquartered in Arizona and employs about 7,000 people in more than 200 stores spread across 20 states. It said the lawsuit’s claims were without merit.
