JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The National Weather Service confirms that two weak tornadoes struck Mississippi earlier this week.
A survey showed that a twister with top winds of 105 mph (170 kph) struck Wilkinson County around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. The tornado, rated EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale, had a path as wide as 450 yards (410 meters).
The storm damaged five homes and a commercial building, also flipping a recreational vehicle.
A second tornado hit Lamar County around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. With top winds of 75 mph (120 kph), the storm rated EF-0. Its path was 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) long and 200 yards (180 meters) wide. It damaged roofs and trees.
The National Weather Service determined that damage in Brookhaven was caused by straight-line winds gusting up to 95 mph (150 kph).
