The snarky mainstream media, apparently tiring of Russia and frustrated over Devin Nunes’ refusal to remove himself from his House Intelligence Committee chairmanship, has decided to revisit an issue that’s lagged a bit in recent weeks — since campaign days, really — in hopes of stoking anti-President Donald Trump fires afresh. Their mantra?

Trump’s a mental case — a complete and utter basket case. Excuse me while I duck out and laugh. But did we not just come off eight years of King Obama, Man of the Hubris?

The guy couldn’t open his mouth without spewing arrogance. Heck, in most cases, he didn’t even have to open his mouth — he just had to be. Remember the selfie heard round the world, when Obama, in the middle of Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, slid tight toward the blond Danish prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, to take a quick pic? Or, the equally “I’m More Important Than You” moment when he cavalierly handed off an umbrella to a nearby Marine to hold — dress standards of the Corps be danged — and casually slipped his rain-droopy self under its shield and continued his speech? Actions speak louder than words, as they say.

But when Obama did speak, it was always with a similarly prideful attitude — an oozing pride-filled attitude.

Go back to 2011, to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, when Obama took it on himself to lambast — supposedly, in humor — Trump, who was in the audience.

“No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than the Donald,” Obama mocked then. “And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter — like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Rosell? And were are Biggie and Tupac?”

Obama was just getting warmed, and he spent several more more moments dressing down Trump for audience laughs — and finishing, prophetically enough, with this: “Say what you will about Mr. Trump, he certainly would bring some change to the White House.”

Now, circa 2017, it’s about as “oh yeah?” a moment for Trump you can get. He must play that Obama clip weekly, at least.

But where the media laughed, they’re now expressing concern. Where the media turned blind eyes to rampant shows of Obama’s narcissism, they’re now gasping at Trump.

A Wednesday article from AOL News blasted this headline: “Expert calls for new standards for presidential candidates amid growing concerns over Trump’s mental health.”

A Thursday story on the Huffington Post snarked in its headline: “Donald Trump aces Keith Olberman’s Screening Test for Psychopaths.”

Well, Olberman — the former NBC screaming anti-conservative loon — would know. But that wasn’t the point of the story. Rather it was to paint Trump as insane.

Olberman actually conducted a study, of sorts, of Trump’s own words and actions, placed them on a Hare Psychopathy Checklist, and found, much to his chagrin, we’re supposed to believe, Trump lacking.

Trump’s score was 32 out of 40.

“The threshold for probably being a psychopath is 30 points,” Olberman said, adding that Trump could actually “still finish life as high as 36 points, since two of his questions pertain to criminal record and violation of parole and there’s plenty of time for him on both.”

Wonder what Obama would score — or Olberman, said screaming loon, for that matter.

But the point is this: The left will use whatever means necessary to cast stones at Trump’s presidency. Last week it was Russia. A couple days ago, it was Nunes. And today? Today’s game seems to be one of old — one of campaign days, slapping Trump as a circus act and mentally unfit for the high office. Don’t worry, if you don’t care to play, just wait a bit. The media can’t go long with a line of attack that so obviously comes back and bites some of their own in the butt.
