ERIE, Pa. (AP) - The former office manager and lead secretary for a Pennsylvania county prosecutor has been fired and charged with stealing more than $143,000 from the office’s bank accounts.
The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/2mQ60LJ ) reports 42-year-old Jennifer Sasso was charged Thursday with stealing the money since December 2010. Most of the missing money, about $91,000 came from forfeitures in drug cases.
The investigation began when police departments began questioning delays in overtime pay for officers who participated in Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri’s Drug Task Force. Those questions led investigators to find money missing from three office accounts that Sasso allegedly took without authorization.
Daneri says state prosecutors will handle the case, but otherwise declined comment.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Sasso who faces a preliminary hearing March 17.
