MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee immigrant advocates and the Mexican consulate are planning legal clinics across Wisconsin in light of the Trump administration’s call for stronger immigration enforcement.
The events this weekend in four Wisconsin cities are part of a national effort by Mexican consulates and advocacy groups to provide advice about what to do when detained or questioned by law enforcement.
The Milwaukee-based Voces de la Frontera says the clinics will also inform immigrants of a 24-hour hotline and how to make sure children stay with family if parents are detained. The group says the hotline will help keep track of who is detained because the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled last week that sheriffs don’t have to disclose that information.
The clinics are in Madison and Manitowoc on Saturday and Milwaukee and Racine on Sunday.
