Sen. Susan Collins on Tuesday likened the House investigation into possible Russia interference to a “mystery novel,” saying “you never know what is going to happen next.”
Mrs. Collins, Maine Republican, is among the members of the Senate that have tried to steer clear of directly criticizing their colleagues on the House Intelligence Committee, while making it clear that they have full confidence in the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committees — Sens. Richard Burr, North Carolina Republican, and Mark Warner, Virginia Democrat.
“The chairman and the vice chairman, Richard Burr and Mark Warner, are working hand in glove and given the membership of our committee, I am convinced that we will do a thorough, credible investigation and follow the evidence wherever it leads us,” Mrs. Collins said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“I believe that our Senate investigation has far more credibility than the house investigation has at this point,” she said.
Sen. Joe Manchin, West Virginia Democrat, delivered a similar message on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” complimenting Mr. Burr and Mr. Warner and saying “it doesn’t make sense” what is happening in the House.
“To have credibility I don’t know how you could have one member of that team going rogue on you and then think they’re going to sit down and be an honest broker,” Mr. Manchin said. “It just doesn’t work that way.”
