DETROIT (AP) - A 3-year apprenticeship program will train workers for jobs as electrical instrumentation control technicians with the Great Lakes Water Authority.
The authority says classes will begin Wednesday through a partnership with Focus: HOPE and Henry Ford College in Dearborn.
Up to 20 people will learn about the job and receive on-the-job training at no cost. They will have opportunities to work with mentors and attend customized courses at Henry Ford College.
Those who complete the program will receive certification, a Labor Department journeyman card and full-time employment with the authority.
The water authority is a regional board that operates Detroit’s water system. It says apprenticeship programs for additional job classifications are expected to be developed in the future.
