JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A longtime Republican lawmaker has been confirmed to Mississippi’s three-member Workers Compensation Commission.

The state Senate voted unanimously Tuesday to approve Rep. Mark Formby of Picayune for a commission term that begins April 15 and runs through 2022.

Formby must resign from the House seat he has held since 1993. Republican Gov. Phil Bryant will call a special election to fill the District 108 seat in Pearl River County.

The 60-year-old Formby helped push a 2012 law that tightened rules about how the commission awards compensation to workers injured on the job.

Formby will succeed businessman Liles Williams. Two commissioners are paid $119,568 and the chairman is paid $123,680. Williams is the current chairman, and Bryant will choose the next leader.
