A Democratic candidate for governor is raising money off of the GOP’s failure to pass an overhaul of the health care system.
Former Rep. Tom Perriello, who is running against Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, blasted out a “the resistance is working” fundraising email attributing the House GOP’s decision to pull its plan to repeal Obamacare last week to the opposition from grassroots activists.
“Friday’s win is just another reminder that when people step up, change happens. And we have an opportunity right here in Virginia to make change with our progressive campaign,” Mr. Perriello said.
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change the political map here in Virginia,” he said. “Together, we’re going to make Virginia a firewall against the hate and bigotry of the Trump administration in Washington.”
The primary race is set for June 13.
The candidates in the GOP race are Ed Gillespie, a former adviser to President George W. Bush, Prince William County Board of Supervisor Chair Corey Stewart and State Sen. Frank Wagner.
