Rep. Tim Walz of Minnesota is running for governor in 2018.

The Democrat has represented the Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District since 2007 and plans to file his paperwork Monday for his gubernatorial bid, according to the Post Bulletin.

“I think now more than ever people are just wanting [government] to work,” Mr. Walz told the newspaper Monday. “They are not looking for the partisanship. They are not looking for me to have all the answers, but they are certainly looking for me to bring people together to find those solutions that we all know are there.”

The National Republican Campaign Committee responded to the news by saying that Mr. Walz must have realized his re-election was in jeopardy.

“Apparently, Tim Walz would rather bail out than face a tough race for his seat,” said Matt Gorman. NRCC communications director. “The NRCC will continue to target this open seat aggressively and are confident we’ll turn it red in 2018.”

Before the announcement, Inside Elections, a nonpartisan campaign tracker, rated Mr. Walz’s seat as “lean Democrat.”
