SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syracuse has hired Steve Stanard as second-year coach Dino Babers fills out his staff following two departures.

Stanard, who served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Wyoming the past three seasons, will coach the Orange defensive ends. Babers shifted defensive line coach Vinson Reynolds to defensive tackles, and defensive coordinator Brian Ward will take over as linebackers coach.

Last season under Stanard, Wyoming ranked third nationally with five defensive touchdowns and was 10th in the country in takeaways (27). The Cowboys topped the Mountain West in fumble recoveries (12) and tied for second in the conference in both interceptions (15) and sacks (30).

Syracuse lost two coaches earlier this month. Running backs coach Mike Hart left for the same job at Indiana, while Tom Kaufman, who was in charge of special teams and linebackers, left to take over as defensive coordinator at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
