TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has sanctioned an attorney who filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the fatal shooting of a Tupelo man by a police officer.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2nlj4LY ) a federal magistrate found attorney Carlos Moore failed to comply with court rules when he didn’t turn over a forensic expert’s analysis requested by Tupelo city attorneys in a timely manner.

Moore represents the family of Ronnie Shumpert, who was fatally shot by Tupelo police officer Tyler Cook in June 2016. A wrongful death suit by Sumpert’s family seeks $35 million from the city.

Moore said he was under “immense stress” last year, largely because he received death threats after suing Gov. Phil Bryant over the Mississippi state flag. That suit was later dismissed.

Moore said accepts the court’s sanction order.
