Baltimore mayor vetoes $15 minimum wage bill

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has vetoed the $15-an-hour minimum wage bill approved by the City Council.

The council voted 11 to 3 on Monday to approve the bill, which would raise the minimum wage in the city gradually to reach $15 an hour by 2022.

But Pugh vetoed the legislation on Friday, saying employers would leave the city rather than pay a higher minimum wage.

Twelve of the council’s 15 members would have to vote to override the veto.
