Amy Schumer has dropped off a planned live-action Barbie movie project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The standup comedian and actress has pulled out due to scheduling conflicts, THR reported Thursday, noting that toy company Mattel and studio partner Sony are looking for a replacement for the title character. Ms. Schumer signed on to the project in December.
The movie, now planned for a June 2018 release, also is currently without a director, THR said. The Internet Movie Database describes the movie as a comedy about “[a] doll living in ’Barbieland’ [who] is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.”
Ms. Schumer, an outspoken liberal and cousin of Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, most recently made headlines for lashing out at “alt-right” trolls whom she blames for artificially driving down the ratings of her new Netflix comedy special.
She has, however, also courted controversy on the left, facing a backlash in October 2016 for a parody video of Beyonce’s “Formation” music video. Ms. Schumer, who is white, was lambasted by some critics for “cultural appropriation.”
