PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo says the Republican-backed health care bill before the U.S. House is immoral, reckless and “un-American” and would hurt tens of thousands of people in her state.

Raimondo said at a news conference Thursday that the proposed health care overhaul she calls “Trumpcare” would also be an “unsustainable blow” to the state budget.

Raimondo says former Democratic President Barack Obama’s 2010 Affordable Care Act works well in Rhode Island. She says the overhaul backed by Republican President Donald Trump and House Republicans would lead to higher premiums and lost jobs, in the name of tax breaks for the wealthy.

She says it would cost the state more than $200 million a year to maintain Medicaid coverage for more than 70,000 people covered through Obama’s law.
