SEATTLE (AP) - The Snohomish County Fire District Board of Commissioners has voted to issue a written reprimand to two of its members caught on tape making racially insensitive comments about Mexican laborers.

The Seattle Times reports (https://bit.ly/2mWR0My) the reprimand approved Tuesday characterizes their speech as unprofessional and denigrating community members.

Commissioners Bob Meador and David Chan have publicly apologized for their comments made during a break in a March 7 public meeting. But they have resisted calls for their resignation, including from members of the local firefighters union.

The vote for a written reprimand comes after an attempt to impose disciplinary action against Meador and Chan failed Friday on a 2-2 tie vote. The two men voted not to discipline each other and one member of the five-member board was absent.
