BOURNE, Mass. (AP) - The victim of a house fire in Bourne last week has been publicly identified as a 65-year-old woman.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2mPywMX ) that the district attorney’s office identified the victim of last Friday’s fire as Maureen Marzelli-White.

Firefighters and police officers arrived to find the home near Monument Beach fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters, police and neighbors tried to rescue a woman inside, but couldn’t due to heavy smoke and flames.

Officials halted the rescue attempts and tried to protect nearby homes that sit close together on a side street.

Marzelli-White’s dog also died in the blaze, but a cat survived.

The fire marshal’s office is looking into the cause.
