As Judge Neil Gorsuch’s third day of his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee came to a close, he asked the chairman if he could make a few remarks.
He had spent more than ten hours on Tuesday, and more than eight hours on Wednesday, answering questions from the 20 senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee about his record and judicial philosophy.
The judge, who has met with 72 senators since being nominated by President Trump on Jan. 31, said he wishes the American people could have seen what all he has seen during the past two months.
“I think if they can see what I’ve seen, they would be much bigger believers in their government than they are,” he said.
Judge Gorsuch thanked the senators “for doing what you do for the American people.”
On Thursday, the final day of the judge’s confirmation hearing, witnesses — both supporting and opposing his confirmation — will testify to the committee about his record.
The committee is expected to vote on Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation on April 3.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the judge will be confirmed before the Easter recess.
