SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The Sacramento City Council told police they must release video from a February shooting between officers and a parolee as quickly as possible.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2msuEGA ) the department had argued it needed more time to review the footage.

The order Tuesday by council members came after the interim police chief asked for a waiver to withhold 23 videos for up to 60 days while the department continued its investigation into an encounter with Armani Lee. His request was denied.

Police say Lee had been under surveillance by an undercover team and opened fire when officers moved in to arrest him. Four officers shot at Lee. He was struck multiple times but is recovering.

No officers were shot. The gunfight is the first police shooting since Sacramento enacted a policy requiring that video in critical incidents be released within 30 days.
