White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday said health care was President Trump’s “top priority” but that getting it done will allow Mr. Trump to move onto other parts of his agenda.
“The president’s made very clear this was his top priority, but he also says when health care is done, he will move on to tax cuts, to infrastructure, to dealing with actors around the world,” Ms. Conway said on “Fox & Friends.”
“Going to Capitol Hill today, I think, is a really great display of leadership and they are very confident they can get the votes,” she said.
Mr. Trump is scheduled to head to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet with House Republicans ahead of a floor vote on legislation repealing parts of Obamacare that is planned for Thursday.
She also pointed to changes to the bill unveiled Monday, such as allowing states to opt in to imposing work requirements for Medicaid. That was a provision aimed at winning over some of the more conservative members in the House.
“The president did not say ’this is the bill and it’s my way or the highway,’’” she said. “He has been very respectful of different inputs and that’s reflected in the legislation.”
