LACONIA, N.H. (AP) - Investigators say they’re looking for a 73-year-old man suspected of setting fire to his girlfriend’s Meredith home two decades ago and faking his own death multiple times to avoid capture.
Sgt. Bill Wright of the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office tells WMUR-TV (https://bit.ly/2mcrFAF ) that James Hill fled to Florida in April 1998 so he didn’t have to face arson charges.
Hill is believed to have fled in a stolen sailboat that was found ashore with items that belonged to him.
Wright says the U.S. Coast Guard believed Hill was lost at sea and Florida issued a death certificate. A car was later found in a river with more of Hill’s belongings.
Sightings of Hill have been reported across the U.S. and Caribbean. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
