Southern Utah University sees major drop in enrollment

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Southern Utah University has seen a large drop in enrollment between the fall and spring semester.

The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2nwdNiN ) that though officials say some attrition between semesters is typical, it’s unclear why the university lost more than 1,000 students. Last year the university lost 483 students between fall and spring.

SUU spokeswoman Ellen Treanor says the unusual decline in enrollment has not affected on-campus offerings or student-to-teacher ratios.

Utah Commissioner of Higher Education David Buhler says mid-year changes in enrollment are often attributed to freshman deciding to leave after struggling in the fall.
