Nordstrom insists its line of Ivanka Trump products, ranging from professional sheath dresses and black pumps, wasn’t selling well, so it had to be dropped.
So what did it pick up?
High-wasted, acid-washed mom jeans, complete with see-through knees, selling for $95 a pop. Made by Topshop — a hip British retailer — the jeans feature clear, plastic kneecap covers, sewn into the fabric. Nordstrom.com says the jeans have a “futuristic feel.”
Even the liberal Huffington Post is questioning why.
Begging for someone to put a stop to the madness, Huffington Post writer Carly Ledbetter penned, “Have you ever thought to yourself, ’Hey, I really wish my kneecaps would sweat more,’ or, ’Man, I wish people could get a better look at my kneecaps, but I’m wearing jeans?’ Well you’re in luck …”
Based on the social media reaction to the jeans, it’s not clear who is buying them.
“We are truly living in a dark time,” Jed Whitaker wrote on Twitter.
Becca Laurie penned: “A friend just sent me the worst jeans I’ve ever seen.”
“Mad libs, but for fashion,” Ryan Willumson tweeted.
Some found them offensive.
“PSA: I do not endorse Clear Knee Mom and her attire choices. This Mom has no style. She has no grace,” Twitter handle @truongasm wrote.
“He wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer,” Jamie McKelvie penned.
So, just to be clear — you can no longer buy a pair of Ivanka Trump’s shoes at Nordstrom — but you can buy a pair of clear-knee mom jeans.
Because that’s what sells. OK.
