YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) - Police in Maine and North Carolina are investigating a 13-year-old boy after they say he made threats of a future shooting at Yarmouth High School on social media.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2mkcOAo ) the unidentified teen who made the threat lives out of state and is connected to Yarmouth students through online gaming.
Yarmouth Police Chief Michael Morrill says the boy sent an Instagram message to a Yarmouth girl on Sunday that said she should quit school because he was planning to “shoot the place up.”
The threat was reported to Yarmouth police, who then worked in collaboration with law enforcement in North Carolina to identify the suspect and determine that his threat was not credible.
Morrill says the case remains under investigation and the boy hasn’t been charged.
