JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A retired military officer from Mississippi is now in charge of a group that lobbies Congress on behalf of the National Guard.

The National Guard Association of the United States says in a news release Monday that its new president is retired Brig. Gen. Roy Robinson. He is a former assistant adjutant general of Mississippi.

He succeeds Retired Maj. Gen. Gus Hargett, who has retired.

Robinson was the association’s vice chairman for two years, until last September. The group’s board met in November and chose him to succeed Hargett.

Robinson was executive director of the National Guard Association of Mississippi. During his career in the Mississippi Army National Guard, he commanded an engineer battalion in Iraq.
