TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a drunken driving crash that left a woman dead and her two children injured.

The Tampa Bay Times (https://goo.gl/B47547 ) reports that 48-year-old Brian DeFreitas was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury and reckless driving.

Authorities say DeFreitas was speeding on State Road 60 near Plant City in October 2015 when he crashed his car into a pickup track. The collision killed 45-year-old Maria Luisa Olivas. Her 9-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter were injured.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers noted DeFreitas smelled like alcohol. Blood drawn three hours after the crash showed an alcohol content of 0.22 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.
