MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - All-star catcher and retired broadcaster Tim McCarver will be honored by the Liberty Bowl at a dinner this summer.
The Liberty Bowl says in a news release that McCarver will receive its Distinguished Citizen Award on June 25.
The event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
McCarver attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis. He played 12 of his 21 major league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.
McCarver was a TV network analyst for more than three decades. He retired after the 2013 season.
