ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued two trail warnings for hikers in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains.

DEC says the high-water bridge on the Calamity Brook trail is unsafe and should not be used. The department also is warning hikers that crossing Calamity Brook at this time of year can be very dangerous due to snowmelt and rain.

Hikers are being advised to use the East River Trail to the Flowed Lands. That detour will add 3.7 miles one-way to each trip.

DEC also says the top landing of the Mount Adams fire tower near Tahawus has been damaged by ice and wind. Users should avoid the tower until repairs are completed later this year.
