BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A former Montana teacher who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old student who killed herself while the case was pending will be paroled to California later this month after serving 2 ½ years in prison.
The Montana Board of Pardons and Parole accepted 57-year-old Stacey Dean Rambold’s parole plan, as have officials in California who will supervise his parole.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Judy Beck told The Billings Gazette (bit.ly/2mbI31w) on Friday that Rambold will be released from prison on March 21.
Rambold initially was sentenced to a month in prison by a state judge who suggested that the victim shared blame for the 2007 rape. The Montana Supreme Court censured the judge and ordered that Rambold be re-sentenced by another judge.
