Seven out of 10 people said President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress made them feel more optimistic about the direction of the country, and 57 percent said they had a “very positive” reaction to the speech, according to a CNN/ORC poll conducted Tuesday.
Nearly seven in 10 people who watched the speech said Mr. Trump’s proposed policies would move the country in the right direction and almost two-thirds said the president has the right priorities for the country.
Seventy-two percent said Mr. Trump’s proposals on the economy went in the right direction, compared to 70 percent for his terrorism proposals, 64 percent for taxes, 62 percent for immigration and 61 percent for health care.
About two-thirds said Mr. Trump’s speech was about right ideologically, while 26 percent said it was too conservative, and 8 percent said it wasn’t conservative enough.
The survey of 509 Americans who watched the speech has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
