MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont lawmakers say they hope to have negotiated a budget compromise with the governor’s office by the time the Legislature convenes for a veto session later this month.
Senate President Pro Tempore Tim Ashe, a Democrat and Progressive, tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2rUS9aJ ) he hopes to be able to schedule a meeting to resolve the issues by early next week.
Lawmakers are due back in Montpelier June 21 for what’s expected to be a two-day session so lawmakers can address Republican Gov. Phil Scott’s veto of the state budget and other legislation.
Scott wants to set up a statewide health care plan for all school employees. He says such a move would help save $26 million a year after new lower-cost health plans take effect in January.
