House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and a “Morning Joe” panel on MSNBC burst into laughter on Friday over the idea that President Donald Trump’s voters have an “any mammal will do” mentality.

A chuckling Joe Scarborough had to take off his glasses and wipe his forehead during his final show of the week after commentary by Ms. Pelosi. The insult came after he, along with co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, asked the California Democrat if Mr. Trump has been a “good deal maker.”

“The first meeting we had — House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans — leadership in the White House, this is a big deal,” the lawmaker said. “I mean it really fills you with some pride to have a seat at the table. A new president. House. Senate. Democrats. Republicans. […] First thing he says to open the meeting: ’You know I won the popular vote.’ I thought, since he’s being unconventional, so will I.”

“Oh my God,” Mr. Scarborough said while scratching his chin.

Ms. Pelosi then said she gets nostalgic for the days when former President George W. Bush was in charge of the Executive Branch.

“I wish he were president now,” she said. “I wish Mitt Romney were president. I wish John McCain were president. As far as the Republicans, the people who voted for him it’s almost like, ’any mammal will do.’ They were just voting.”

After the panel laughed, the congresswoman said Mr. Trump’s assertion that millions of illegal immigrants voted was “pretty sad because he didn’t even understand his place in history, and you can’t expect people to respect the Office of the President any more than the occupant of the job does. I do respect the Office of the President. I hope that he will rise to that occasion. The fact is, he hasn’t so far.”
