ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - Planters Rice Mill says it’s reducing its workforce by more than half.

The Abbeville company tells KATC-TV (https://bit.ly/2s5DV8L ) that 26 layoffs announced Friday are due to economic conditions and the lack of rough rice available for the cut backs.

Officials say the layoffs were a necessary action taken to adapt to an ever-changing environment. And, they say the decision was a necessary move to reduce overhead costs.
