SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman has been charged with embezzling nearly half a million dollars combined from her employer and a youth lacrosse organization where she was treasurer.
Courtney Wells, of Southington, turned herself in on Wednesday after learning that there were warrants out for her arrest on multiple charges including first-degree larceny, second-degree money laundering and forgery.
Authorities say the 48-year-old woman embezzled almost $100,000 from the nonprofit Southington Lacrosse Association from 2011 until 2016.
Wells also allegedly embezzled more than $375,000 from Jones Engineering, where she was a bookkeeper, during the same time span.
She told police that she was living beyond her means and intended to pay the money back.
She was freed on $80,000 bond. She has not entered a plea.
